Weddings + Engagements

Woodland Park, Colorado Barn Wedding | Jennica and Tyler

I had been looking forward to this wedding for a long time. I shot Jennica and Tyler’s engagement session last year during the week of Thanksgiving and it was a blast (remember the ring picture with s’mores?)! Well, at one point I got the car we took stuck in the snow… but once we got past that it was great. They are so patient and go-with-the-flow; exactly the kind of people I Love to work with. I’ll be honest, the whole week before this wedding I was quite stressed about the weather. The forecast kept changing, but for the most part it said it was supposed to rain all day. Even when I woke up that morning (around 6am), it said it was supposed to rain from 8am-9pm. By some amazing stroke of luck it didn’t start raining until we were inside the barn for the reception around 5pm. I couldn’t believe it! All that stress for nothing! And yet, I can’t complain because I was SO thankful to get some beautiful outdoor portraits before the skies let loose 🙂

Jennica and Tyler have known each other since elementary school because they were both friends with one of the groomsmen at that time, but they didn’t officially meet and start talking until the end of high school. They hit it off immediately and have been together ever since!

When Tyler proposed, he tricked Jennica into thinking they were going out to dinner for his grandpa’s birthday. He asked if they could pick up his parents from the Broadmoor (a resort in Colorado Springs) on the way because their car broke down. Apparently this wasn’t unusual since they stay there every year for their anniversary and they took the old green Subaru that never runs well. Tyler also used to work at the Broadmoor so him and Jennica would go down there to walk through often for date nights (side note: the hotel/resort is massive has one of the largest collections of Western art in the country.. or something like that).

Jennica said that they went up to Tyler’s parents room to pick them up and his mom pretended to have to go meet the tow truck driver, saying she’d be right back. Their room was an apartment overlooking the lake and was BEAUTIFUL. They walked around and went out on the balcony where he got down on one knee! Then of course, Jennica found out that it wasn’t Tyler’s grandpa’s birthday and his parent’s car was running just fine! And all of his family and hers were waiting for them downstairs in the restaurant!

Fun fact: Jennica’s grandma made all the decorations herself!
